Fairfax County Department of Planning and Development

The primary purpose of the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) is to provide proposals, advice and assistance on land use, development review and zoning issues to those who make decisions on such issues in Fairfax County. The Department of Planning and Development consists of five areas: the Planning Division, the Zoning Evaluation Division, the Zoning Administration Division, the Community Revitalization Section and the Urban Centers Section. DPD provides service to our customers from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In-Person Assistance


DPD staff are available in-person at the Herrity Building to assist with general questions. To save you time and energy, we encourage you to call us before you come in. We have great phone and online resources. In person appointments can be made in advance by phone, and walk-ins are welcome at the following locations:
