The City of Falls Church Economic Development Office, the Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the City Council’s Economic Development Committee advise City Council on economic development issues and proposals and support small businesses in the City.

The EDA provides community education programs, conducts research, purchases, leases and sells property, reviews/approves Industrial Revenue Bond requests, and generally supports projects and programs that promote business and

investment in the city. The City Council’s Economic Development Committee meets regularly to assist in supporting City businesses – large, small, new and existing businesses.  They also undertake economic development initiatives to benefit the City and report back to the City Council on their efforts.

The Economic Development Office (EDO) provides staffing support to both the Economic Development Authority and the City Council’s Economic Development Committee, providing research, reports and staffing meetings. The EDO staff operate under the direction of the Director of the Department of Community Planning and Economic Development Services.  The staff of the EDO provide support to City projects and businesses via maintaining a database of available commercial space in the City, acting as a Small business assistance/ombudsman, providing Construction permitting facilitation, conducting Commercial Market Research, generating fiscal impact reports on new mixed use projects, substantial marketing/tourism services, and working on many special projects such as the City’s wayfinding signage project, the Little City Gift/bonus card program, managing an annual restaurant week, working on downtown beautification and many others
