NoVA Labs Makerspace

NoVA Labs is a volunteer-driven organization that provides creators, entrepreneurs and kids with the ability to access a host of amazing tools that inspire innovation, support local business growth, teach STEAM and build a community for hobbyists.

About

Nova Labs is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2011. It takes a volunteer-driven approach to providing creators, entrepreneurs and kids with the ability to access amazing tools, classes and a like-minded community of makers. We inspire innovation, support local business growth, teach STEAM skills and give hobbyists a place to meet and learn from other makers.

Nova Labs is located in Fairfax Virginia, but we serve the greater Washington region, and are part of the “maker movement” as evidenced by our deep affiliations with maker spaces across the country. Members can become certified to use their choice of tools in our woodshop, metal shop, mixed media shops, woodturning area, CNC machining, and sheet metal shop. Members can also choose to become certified to use vinyl cutters, 3d printers, laser cutters, leather working equipment, jewelry making tools, stained glass materials, electronics reflow materials, sublimation printing, embroidery machines, sewing machines, and composites.

Our programs are vast, and include training, open access, experimentation, building, robotics competitions, expositions, space rental, summer camps, participation in regional conferences and community building. Our mission is to make learning and making accessible to all. During the COVID pandemic, our members banded together to make PPE for local medical facilities that was inaccessible in the early pandemic.

Our Maker School provides summer camps for K-12 kids and includes a range of experiences from Lego master building, space exploration, STEM for girls, robotics, woodworking, stop-motion filmmaking and more. Nova Labs supports small businesses and entrepreneurs with prototyping facilities, technical education, peer mentorship, and office or workbench space. The magic of Nova Labs remains our members and the mission to support makers who are learning, inventing and supporting the community.
