ArtsFairfax
About
ArtsFairfax promotes the role of arts and culture to deepen social engagement, create a sense of place, and fuel economic growth. As a nonprofit designated as the local arts agency for Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and the City of Falls Church, ArtsFairfax works closely with the County, local community partners, and throughout the private sector to provide services and resources to all who contribute to and experience arts in our area.
Primary functions include:
-
Administering County funds as grants to artists and arts and culture organizations.
Providing free professional development and capacity-building workshops for the creative community.
-
Promoting public arts and culture activities via an Events Calendar and ongoing Newsletter series.
-
Serving as a destination for artist work and employment opportunities, funding opportunities, tools, and resources for the arts and culture sector.
Notable Projects:
-
Creative Spaces Toolkit Developed as a guide to creative and interim activation of vacant buildings and spaces, the Creative Spaces Toolkit is designed for the arts user in mind to encourage collaboration between the arts sector, area property owners, and local government officials. ArtsFairfax found all the relevant resources–how to find space, get a permit, negotiate a lease, and market your project–and put it in one place so that the user can take the correct next step in bringing their vision to life.
-
Capital One Hall Community Arts Partnership On behalf of Fairfax County, ArtsFairfax manages the online application process for community arts use of Capital One Hall. County and charitable arts, nonprofit, and other civic organizations can apply to use the Main Stage, The Vault, or classroom spaces for arts-related programming, including performance, rehearsal, and other arts activities, at specially negotiated rates.
Finally, in our role as a community resource, ArtsFairfax makes best efforts to broker connections between the arts sector and commercial sector to create and promote public art and creative placemaking.
