The Department of Tax Administration (DTA) assesses and collects taxes and fees for Fairfax County including business tax, vehicle tax, and real estate tax.

Department of Economic Initiatives (DEI) leverages county resources and develops policy recommendations to foster economic development and position Fairfax to be an economically competitive and prosperous community. It also works closely with small, local businesses to advise and guide them as they grow.

The primary purpose of the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) is to provide proposals, advice and assistance on land use, development review and zoning issues to those who make decisions on such issues in Fairfax County. The Department of Planning and Development consists of five areas: the Planning Division, the Zoning Evaluation Division, the Zoning Administration Division, the Community Revitalization Section and the Urban Centers Section.
